Custom Swimsuits for Under $15 April 30, 2009

Well-made and classically styled swimsuits are the ideal. They are there when you need them, they fit you perfectly, and they hold up to wearing, swimming, sunning, and washing again and again. You can always get a trendy one too, but it’s smart to always have a simple and flattering swimsuit handy in case of a pool party, beach weekend, or last-minute getaway to sunshine.

Having worn the same lasting swimsuits for nearly a decade (hey, they still look and fit like new!), I decided to splash out on two new one-piece swimsuits. I expected to pay a pretty penny, but then I looked at Lands’ End’s overstocks swimwear. At the moment, there are over 100 options in the women’s section, including custom-made swimsuits allowing you to choose what style and size built-in bra you want with what color and torso length. All this in a one-piece for under $15, because now they’re on sale! Here are a few favorites:

Spring Into A New Coat April 29, 2009

Word on the street is that the trench’s perennial style power is back for another season. I do not subscribe to trends, unless I like them so it’s nice that the classic trench is being seen in some new colors for spring and summer. Though there are many variations available, today we are looking at just a few…

CC Couture’s Ruffle neck Belted Coat ($49.99) in fuchsia.

Michael Kors’s Double-breasted Trench Coat ($94.99) in red, khaki, or black.

London Fog’s Red Belted Trench Coat ($43.99).

Tommy Hilfiger’s Belted Trench Coat with Piping ($69.99) in west palm green or black.

Michael Kors’s Double-breasted Short Trench Coat ($99.99) in taxi yellow, cerise pink, or black.

The Gap’s Belted Trench ($78) in mineral green.

Protection from The Elements… of Your Fridge April 23, 2009

Once something is sliced, it seems to be so vulnerable to drying out, particularly in the fridge. Solutions Catalog thought of that when they started selling their Produce Saver Sets. Available in sets of two (lemon & lime, garlic & tomato, red onion & yellow onion) for $7.95 each. Instead of using disposable plastic wrap every time, you can use the same containers again and again.

Begging and Pleating April 22, 2009

Slipping on a lightweight knit dress is one of the joys of summer apparel. Next to things that tie (like wrap skirts and swimwear), that is. Ann Taylor LOFT has a darling Pleated Empire Dress ($49.99) in black, tomato red, and Havana blue. With comfort like a tee-shirt and the grace of a dress, how can this go wrong?
